Coffee Stir Sticks

Gail Prather

Each year I make gift baskets for my friends & family. I always include these stir sticks along with some flavorful coffee beans.
|
1 c. sugar
1/3 c. brewed coffee
1 T. corn syrup
¼ t. baking cocoa
¼ t. cinnamon
|
½ t. vanilla extract
12 wooden craft sticks
cellophane
ribbon
|
In a large saucepan, combine sugar, coffee, corn syrup, cocoa and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, stirring constantly. Continue to cook over medium heat, without stirring until a candy thermometer reaches 290 degrees for about 7 minutes.
Remove from heat and add vanilla: stir well. Pour into greased 2-cup glass measuring cup. Working quickly, pour tablespoonfuls into circles on a greased baking sheet and lay a stick in each circle. Allow to cool at room temperature until hardened. When cooled, wrap with cellophane and tie with ribbon. Store in an airtight container. Makes one dozen stir sticks.

My story: 4 generations of LTD shoppers
We value each and every one of our customers and love to hear your feedback.
One customer recently shared her story of how LTD has been part of her family for 4 generations!
Dear LTD,
My family is 4 generations of LTD shoppers. It started with my mother and my grandmother and now I’ve passed the shopping wand onto my daughter.
I can remember as a teenager, Mom would bring home postcards because back in the day, LTD did not have catalogs. No, they just had postcards. As I recall, they came in a little packet, maybe 10 or so, 1 item printed on each side. My mom worked at the Williamsport High School and these cards got passed around to all the teachers and secretaries. They kept a paper clipped onto each card where someone could write what they wanted to buy. Back then, you were required to order three, so if there were only two items ordered, they would go around until someone would be willing to buy the 3rd item. That continued until I left home and went to college and then no more LTD for me.
I took a job at Chef-Boy-R-Dee and one day an LTD catalog showed up on my desk. Well, what do you know; LTD was back, at least for 2 years that is, until I moved on. Years go by, my mom has since retired, and I’m no longer working at Chef-Boy-R-Dee and there was no more LTD in our family. And then one day, I’m sitting on a boat in the middle of Lake Wallenpaupack, PA with a couple of our friends. Shelly pulled a catalog out of her tote bag and asked if I ever heard of this LTD company before and wondered if I wanted to look at their catalog. Well guess what, I hadn’t seen one in years. And of course I want to look through it and of course I want to buy something!
It didn’t take long for me to bring the catalog to HarperCollins where I now work and have an account set up. Today, our office is buying LTD. But it didn’t stop there. I took the book to NYC, and Grand Rapids and the offices there are buying LTD. I even took the book “across the pond” to Scotland!
This past year my daughter, Kimberly, has started to buy LTD on her own. She actually took the catalog and ordered Christmas presents. So, its official we are now 4 generations of LTD shoppers. But it’s not just my daughter; I have my stepdaughter, Kim, also buying LTD. All 3 of my sisters still shop from the LTD catalogs, but most recently we have become on-line addicts.
In all the years I have bought LTD, and I have bought a lot, I can probably count on one hand the number of items I didn’t like and returned. I can honestly say I like their products and I think their prices are fair. I can’t wait for their catalog; you’ll always find it on my desk with a bunch of post-it’s hanging out the sides, marking the pages.
My story doesn’t quite end here. You see, one day, my stepson calls on the phone from Florida and said that his girlfriend, Liz, just got a job with a company called LTD, he thinks he can recall that’s the catalog I order from…….?

Kimberly Long, my daughter
And never to forget my grandmother, Mabel Liddic
