6 Tips To Make Your Holiday Presents Look Professional
Let's face it. We can't all be Martha Stewart, no matter what we see on Pinterest. It's OK. If you want to up your gift presentation game this holiday season we've got you covered. Here are six tips to make your holiday presents look like you paid somebody else to do it.
1) Choose The Right Wrapping Paper
Unfortunately, those dollar-store wrapping papers just aren't going to cut it. They rip so easily, and you will end up re-wrapping your presents anyway. This especially goes for things like toys and books for kids - they've always got lots of bumps and sharp edges and kids do a lot of man-handling before the big day. Unless you want your recipients to peek through the holes to see the gift, go for thick, high-quality wrapping paper.
2) Keep The Colors Classy
Sure we all love bright blue cartoon snowmen and the like, but do you see stores in the mall dressing their gifts up in that? Choose classy colors in lighter and more neutral shades instead of gaudy Christmas explosions. You want creams and silvers and light blues with just textured designs or watermark patterns. You can occasionally go for a solid brighter color also ? like a bright red or green or blue, as long as you've got a nice ribbon for an accent.
3) Add A Fancy Ribbon
Ah, the ribbon. There are several different ways to do the ribbon, but if you want to get super fancy, you should use two. Try for a thick light color and a thin dark color, and wrap them around the box for that perfect look.
4) Wrap With Care
Now that you've got fancy expensive wrapping paper, you don't want to waste it, do you? Make sure you measure out your paper first by lightly rolling the gift from end to end, to ensure all spots are covered, and use sharp scissors or a sharp knife to get a perfectly straight edge. You should also place the gift upside down, so the TOP of the present is what they see first as they unwrap it. It's okay to cut off the excess if you have to, but it's always better to measure it properly first.
5) Double-Sided Tape
Guess what? You want to use awesome double-sided tape to make your gift look extra fancy. This keeps the wrapping paper and ribbon the star of the show, and provides a clean finish. Don't waste your time with that opaque one-sided stuff either.
6) Add An Embellishment
Whether that's a fancy snowflake, a handmade bow, or a pipe-cleaner candy cane, a nice embellishment on a gift can be a great addition, especially for kids. Just remember to keep it small and classy. Some great ideas for embellishments are multipurpose items, like those that double as a coaster, a fancy gift tag, or cute little candies are always a hit. You can also relate the accessory to the gift. So if your gift is something like a cookbook, you could use cooking utensils as the outer embellishment, or use a small reading light as an add-on for a wrapped book. Love holiday stories?
