Feng Shui Bedroom Basics
If you're feeling a little restless it could be the feng shui in your bedroom. The feng shui decorating style focuses on how the flow of energy, or chi, can affect your environment. Improving the flow of chi in your bedroom can help turn the space into a serene sanctuary that promotes rest and relaxation. Here are some feng shui bedroom basics to get you started.
Clear The Clutter
Bedrooms are meant to be calm places to relax, so clear out everything that doesn't need to be in there. Don't keep any work, sewing projects for Christmas outfits, or electronics in the bedroom either. If you need to keep a TV or computer in the bedroom, make sure you can hide it in a drawer or in an armoire at night. Clothing should be kept in a dresser or the closet.
Pick A Palette
When choosing colors for your room, think about the energy you want to harness. Consider soft colors, like those you would use at baby showers, as too many bold colors could disrupt the calm you want to promote in your room. However, you don't have to dismiss bright colors altogether; an accent piece or two in a bold color can give your bedroom positive romantic energy and passion.
Arrange The Bed
Placement of the bed is crucial since it is probably the largest piece of furniture in the room. Ideally, the bed would be placed diagonal to the door so you have the security of seeing who is entering the room. Headboards add a supportive feeling, while footboards or large pieces at the foot of the bed are only appropriate if the foot of the bed is facing the door. Avoid placing your bed in the way of the door, window or other opening, as this will ruin the flow. Any overhead slanted ceilings or fans can create a depressed feeling, which can be remedied with a bed canopy.
Position Other Furniture
Each side of the bed should have a nightstand and space to move around to encourage a positive relationship. Try to keep furniture to a minimum. If you have any mirrors, try to face them so they do not reflect the bed. Soften sharp corners of furniture by placing runners or fabric over them..
Add Art & Additional Furniture
To promote good relationships or to start a new one, choose art and aesthetic furniture that visually represents companionship. Avoid single subjects in art or single pieces of additional furniture in a space that's meant to be shared. Instead of art featuring a single flower, choose one with a bunch of flowers. If you want to add a chair, add two and create an area to relax and chat.
With these basics, you'll soon be on your way to a balanced life full of good energy and restful sleep.
