Tips For Hosting A Beach Bash
It's nearly the end of summer; so as the sun sets on your favorite season let it go out with a bang! While everyone is having a Labor Day cookout, take your own party outside your comfort zone and to the beach...even if you don't live near one! Here are 5 tips for throwing a Labor Day beach bash.
Keep It Simple
If you want to do it right, invite a few friends so you can keep the party compact and easy. Usually they say the more the merrier, but when you're throwing a party on public property, keeping it intimate is keeping it simple.
Give Me Shelter
Just like backyard cookouts, guests occasionally need a break from the sun and heat. In your backyard you can always escape it by going inside, but there is no inside at the beach so you have to bring it with you. A portable cabana or canopy provides shade for those who don't want to be directly under the sun's rays. You can use it as a spot to shade food and drinks as well, to keep them fresh, cool and sand-free.
Light Up The Night
You don't need decor for a beach party -- the ocean is decoration enough for an evening on the beach! But when the sun goes down, you need to bring your own lights to navigate the sand. Use a little bit of garden art: solar stakes light a path to your spot and battery-operated LED string lights act as sparkling outdoor decor and guiding lights when the sun goes down.
Many of us love to grill burgers and hot dogs for our summer sustenance! On the beach, you can bring a portable grill or a make a fire pit to create your favorite fare next to the water. Make sure to check the rules of the beach on whether or not fires are allowed. If not, pack a cooler full of easy-to-assemble snacks that don't require cooking like pasta salad, finger sandwiches, fruit salad, or crudités. For drinks, mix up a signature cocktail or punch ahead of time that you can serve from a dispenser to make transport and cleanup easy.
Seating & Eating
Sitting upright at a table on the sand is awkward at best, so you have to come up with alternative seating arrangements. For a table, the shorter the legs the better to keep it stable. The same goes for chairs, but depending on your crowd you may be able to get away with using decorative pillows to use while eating around the table. If your crowd is very casual, you can use picnic blankets and beach towels for lounging and socializing.
