Spring Fever: Refreshing Your Wardrobe For Spring On A Budget
Spring is a time to refresh and renew. From our home decor to our wardrobes, we need to audit everything to get ready for the change of seasons. But when you're on a budget, you have to plan carefully, especially in your closet. Here are 5 ideas for making the most of your spring clothes on a budget.
You don't need a lot of clothes to have a lot of outfits; you just need to be thoughtful about mixing and matching with your core pieces. Core pieces are just simple pieces of clothing that are versatile and, more importantly, make you feel good. Think about the pants, skirts and blouses that you're most comfortable in and can wear often. Use these items as your base and buy new items that complement them.
Just because your core pieces are versatile doesn't mean they have to be made up of neutral colors to match everything. They should be colors that look good on you and your coloring. You don't have to choose spring colors; they don't look good on everyone. The only thing you should worry about is whether or not you like it. If you feel good wearing certain colors, chances are you'll look good, too.
The temperatures are rising and your instincts are telling you to peel away the layers, but your body might not be quite ready yet. In this case, you can abandon your big fluffy sweater and replace it with a cardigan. That's a no-brainer, but what goes on under the cardigan can be last year's summer tops to get a little more mileage out of your lighter blouses. It's a way to re-purpose your clothes with style and still stay warm.
Slacks and jeans keep our legs warm in the winter, but if you swap them out for a pair of leggings, you can wear them with some of your winter sweaters and tunics just until the weather really starts to warm up. This way you're gradually lightening your wardrobe load without sacrificing the comfort of winter clothes.
Bells & Whistles
You can dramatically change an outfit from winter to spring with the right headband, scarf or belt through different colors and textures. They can unify the different elements of your outfit to create a one-of-a-kind look one week and, using a different accessory, you can create a different look with the same pieces for the next week. Even baseball tees can be transformed into multiple outfits with the right accessories.
