Spring Refresh: Easy DIY Projects To Perk Up Your Home For Spring
As winter melts away and the chilly weather tapers off, the fresh spring months welcome warm light, new life and plenty of opportunities to spruce up your home inside and out. While there's always maintenance to get done before spring gets into full swing, you can also cheer up your home with a few of these easy do-it-yourself projects.
Feature Fresh Greenery
It may take a little while to start seeing your freshly planted flowers pop up around your garden, but you don't have to wait that long to add some new life to your home. Repurpose an old pallet by flipping it vertical and hanging or setting clay gardening pots along the multi-tiered planks, throw fresh paint on a window box or stack some concrete blocks in a patio corner and fill them with soil to plant some veggies.
One of the best things about spring is being able to get back out and work in your yard. String up an old rake and use the prongs to hang all your garden tools. Combine stair risers and window boxes to design an herb garden or get creative making your own steppingstones by imprinting the concrete with leaves or other natural patterns. You can also repurpose an old wheelbarrow, end table or toolbox as a planter.
Never Enough Storage
Spring is also the season for cleaning and getting rid of all the clutter you've accumulated throughout the year. Continue repurposing by pulling out old wooden drawers, re-staining and setting them on bathroom countertops for organization. Larger drawers that don't fit can be used under beds or couches. Just attach rolling casters to the bottom and add hardware handles to the outside to simplify pushing and pulling.
Wear For Your Walls
There's only so many times you can update a wall by adding a new layer of paint. Instead, try making a couple wall clocks using photos or decorative pieces in place of each numbered hour. Add interest by using a flat piece of driftwood as a candleholder or turn a milk crate on its side and rack up bottles of wine. You can also make that last coat of paint look entirely new by stenciling a simple pattern over the top.
If the winter months are for curling up indoors, spring is the season to venture outside and start enjoying the warmer weather. Dust off the patio furniture and throw a few of your personally-made decorative pillows on top for a little extra cushion, paint a plain rug to add color and comfort to your outdoor living area or add privacy to a porch or patio with drop cloth curtains.
Whether you're cleaning up after a long winter, preparing for a productive spring or just itching to get outside and do some work, you can always find time to incorporate some of your own creativity into a rewarding do-it-yourself project.
